Jack Russells are smart, energetic, adventurous dogs. Keeping them out of mischief and stopping them running off to explore is a challenge. So, investing in pet insurance is definitely a good idea.
If your dog ran off, you would want to know that the cost of posting flyers and offering a reward is covered by your policy. As well as treatment for them should they cut a paw or break something because they have gone a bit over the top.
Fortunately, they are considered by the insurance industry to be robust dogs, so insuring them is not as expensive, as some other breeds. However, it is still worth shopping around to get the best deal and doing a bit of research to make sure you end up with a policy that covers everything properly and saves you money.

Jack Russells are fairly robust, but they can be prone to knee problems and to a certain extent hip issues. You may have noticed that a lot of them have a slightly unusual stance. Their feet do not point straight forward, they assume a duck like pose.
This combined with the fact they are so active makes them prone to joint conditions. In many cases, an operation is the only way to solve the issue. So, you will want a policy that covers that and which also provides good levels of cover for MRI/CT Scans and Cruciate ligament problems.
For the same reason, it is wise to choose a policy that offers access to physiotherapy. A lot of dogs who have joint operations benefit from hydrotherapy. This is usually categorised as a form of alternative therapy or complementary treatment.
So, buying a policy that includes access to these kinds of treatments is wise. It can also come in useful if your dog suffers from atopy too. Some itchy dogs don´t respond well to the standard treatment options. In which case being able to see an alternative therapist can come in very handy. Sometimes they respond better to homeopathic treatments.
These dogs are mischievous and have a tendency to run off. They can be a bit snappy when excited and won´t shy away from a fight. So, it makes sense to buy a policy that offers a good level of third-party insurance. If they run across the road and cause a car to swerve and hit a lamp post, there is a chance that the driver could sue you for the damage.
Especially if they only have third-party vehicle insurance. In those circumstances, the damage to their vehicle and them won´t be covered by their car insurance policy.
The fact that they are a long-lived breed (most live to between 13 - 16 years) means it is often worth considering buying a lifetime package.
The good news is that the surgery to correct this condition is normally extremely successful. Although be aware that this type of surgery can cost up to £3,000.
Usually, starting with bacterial infections. Over time the way the organs function starts to degrade. It is a serious disease that cannot go untreated. Your dog will need lifelong medication, which won´t be covered. But, should your dog have a tumour in their adrenal gland that needs to be removed, you can get some coverage for this eventuality.

Jack Russells are feisty little dogs. They were originally bred for hunting, which is one of the reasons they are so active and, despite their little legs, extremely fast.
Once fully grown they typically weigh between 6 and 8kgs. Typically they are between 25 and 37cms in height. They love to play, so when they are young that is all muscle. But they like to eat too, so it is easy for them to put on weight.

Jack Russells are long-lived dogs and most of them stay healthy well into old age. But only if you watch their diet, keep their weight under control, provide them with plenty of exercise.
They are highly intelligent dogs, so get bored easily. It is essential that you take them out every day. Most Jack Russells enjoy playing with toys too.
It is especially important to train these wilful and energetic little dogs. They respond well to being trained using treats and toys.
In theory, these dogs don´t need much in the way of grooming… in reality any Jack Russell owner will have had to bath a very smelly little dog who has got into something they shouldn´t have.
